When I started this blog, it was a simple journal intended to capture the life-changing event of becoming a dad and learning how to be a parent. I wanted something that I could re-read later on as a way of reliving the experience. I also wanted a way to share the moments with friends and family.
But something funny happened.
Other people started finding my little website and began following along. Then more people came. As the page views grew, I had to fight the urge to stage events in order to liven up the posts. After all, there’s no point in keeping this up if it’s not going to be real.
The same thing applies with photos, so I was intrigued when AVEENO invited me to write about the joy of capturing unscripted moments versus stressing out over trying to get that perfect shot every time. The irony is that as time passes, it’s usually the raw, in the moment pictures that endure.
For instance, check out the #UnscriptedBeauty in these photos:
AVEENO recently conducted a survey and concluded that most parents agree that they enjoy the off the cuff moments so much more than when they try to carefully orchestrate situations for that perfect photo. They’re now creating a movement by embracing those moments using the hashtag #UnscriptedBeauty, where they are encouraging parents to share the candid moments. They’re inviting everyone to enter their photos in a contest:
